How can it be free — with no watermark and no daily limit?

Cloud background removers have to meter free use, because every photo they process runs on their servers and costs them compute. NearBG doesn't carry that cost: the model runs in your browser, on your own hardware, so processing one photo or a hundred costs us the same — nothing. That's why there's no watermark, no daily cap, and no account wall; the site stays free through consent-gated ads instead. You still get a transparent PNG to download, with a touch-up brush if an edge needs cleaning up.

What "free" looks like in practice, step by step

1. Open the page and drop a photo in — there is no sign-up wall, no email capture, and no trial counter before you start.
2. Your browser fetches the U2Netp model (about 4 MB) once from our own servers. Serving that small static file is essentially our entire per-user cost — which is why we don't need to meter you.
3. The actual background removal runs on your device's own processor, in your browser. Your hardware does the work, so a hundred photos cost us the same as one: nothing.
4. Download your transparent PNG — no watermark, no resolution paywall, no "HD costs extra". Touch up the edges with the built-in brush and download again, as many times as you want.

Why most "free" removers meter you — and why we don't have to

When a background remover runs in the cloud, every single photo costs the operator real compute money. That cost has to come back somehow, which is where the familiar free-tier furniture comes from: daily limits, forced sign-ups, watermarked previews, low-resolution results with an upsell to "HD". None of that is malice — it's the economics of processing your image on their servers.

NearBG's economics are different because the processing happens on your device: our marginal cost per photo is zero, so there is genuinely nothing to meter. The site is funded by ads that load only if you consent, plus clearly labeled affiliate links — never by your photos, which we couldn't collect even if we wanted to, since the page's security policy blocks image data from leaving your browser. The limits that do exist are your device's, not ours: a low-memory phone caps very large images, and tricky edges like hair may need a pass with the free touch-up brush.
